Two teammates who cannot breathe the same air, and the letter that made everything worse.
Hockey player, David's rival and teammate of four years.
Blonde, on-ice in a Ludwig jersey. He believes David has been picking on him since day one and fears David as captain will make his life a living hell.
Combative but softening. 'Get off me or I'll break your nose.' Then he reads the letter and cannot stop thinking about who it is for.
The new captain and Owen's rival.
Dark-haired, tall, also in a Ludwig jersey. He tells Owen 'kiss me and I'll let you be captain' as a taunt, then turns down the school's most popular girl because he is already in love.
Conflicted and direct. He refuses Selena and admits, when confronted, that he is in love with Owen's sister.
Owen's sister, the object of David's letter.
Dark-haired, in a cheerleader top holding roses. She is one of the two Silvermans at school and is unaware David has been writing about her.
Steady and observed-from-afar. The whole school is guessing who David loves; she is the answer no one expected.
Four years of teammates. One letter. The captaincy, the crush, and the fight are all the same game now.
Episode one opens on the ice. The coach pulls two players aside: 'you two are the best players. You should be each other's best friends, not worst enemies.' Owen and David glare at each other. Owen thinks, if David becomes captain he will make my life a living hell — I have to win.
They go one-on-one. Last goal takes the win. The room yells as they fight like it is the cup final. A teammate says 'told you they cannot breathe the same air.' After the whistle David pins Owen and says, 'kiss me and I'll let you be captain.'
Episode two: the team reacts to David as captain. Owen is furious — 'he took my captain spot, the MVP, and now even my crush is about to be his girlfriend.' The cheerleader Selena confesses to David; he turns her down. Owen is shocked. Everyone is shocked.
Selena asks why. David says he is single but in love with someone already. The room spins. Owen does not know who. Then Lina the cheerleader comes over and congratulates David; he is polite but not interested.
Episode three: the school buzzes. 'David actually turned Selena down for someone else.' Owen swears he does not care. David goes to shower and leaves his bag. Owen finds a folded note — David's love letter.
Owen opens it. Blonde hair, green eyes. Every time you talk I just want to kiss you. Owen works it out: Silverman. Emma and I are the only Silvermans at school. He assumes the letter is for his sister.
David walks back in and catches him. 'You've read it. I did. So you know I'm in love with — how dare you dream of my sister.' The rivalry just acquired a whole new layer.
The arc ends on a standoff. The captaincy was one fight; this is another. Two teammates who cannot share air now have a secret between them that neither can say out loud in the locker room.
